The Victorian Government announced that it plans to make the Frankston rail line level-crossing free by 2029. This will include:
- The removal of Highett’s level crossings at Highett Road and Wickham Road by 2029.
- A new elevated rail bridge is proposed to remove the level crossings and includes the delivery of a new Highett Station.
What does this mean for Highett Common Residents?
Residents of Highett Common will benefit from reduced traffic congestion on Highett Road and enhancements to the Highett Road/Graham Road intersection. A new North-South cycling and walking trail has been proposed to connect Frankston to the CBD by delivering a continuous off-road shared user path between Sir William Fry Reserve and Dane Road Reserve. Residents will also benefit from the streetscape enhancements to Highett Road and the Railway Parade shopping strips as well as a new Highett Station forecourt plaza.
The most signification advantage for residents will be the relocation of Highett Library, which we are proud to confirm will be moving from Highett Road to its new home situated in the Highett Common Precinct.
With all the planned improvements to local infrastructure and the existing conveniences of Highett Station, Woolworths, and local bars and restaurants within walking distance; Highett Common is in the prime position to enjoy the pleasures of modern living.
