Launching The Future of Highett: How Highett Common is bringing nature back to Bayside

In celebration of Highett Common’s grand launch, we recently invited the local community to explore the masterplanned project and for the first time.

Highett’s ex-CSIRO site will soon have a new purpose, becoming the home of 1,000 new apartments and 4 hectares of public green space. Highett Common will be the largest urban regeneration project to launch this year, welcoming new locals and the return of native flora, fauna and wildlife to its verdant spaces.

In celebration of Highett Common’s grand launch, we invited the local community to explore the site for the first time and experience a taste of this bayside inner-pocket.

Life-sized butterflies and trees, courtesy of Top Dog Entertainment, dazzled guests and welcomed them onto the project’s grounds. Our nature-themed performers were accompanied by the sultry sounds of a live acoustic duo to set the mood for the day.

In celebration of the Highett’s incredible local amenity, we enlisted the culinary delights of The Hellenic House Project, the newest venture by former MasterChef alum, George Calombaris. Hellenic House Project provided an exclusive lunch pack, with a selection of grilled pita bread, vegan spanakopita and baklava.

George Calombaris made an exclusive appearance on the day to learn more about the project, meet the team and tell us why he fell in love with Highett.

As with any good meal, our event guests were sure to work up a thirst. The team from Bad Shepherd Brewing Co. provided an assortment of beers and lager to quench even the strongest thirst.

Ending things on a sweeter note, the team from local gelateria, Little Sky Gelato brought along a selection of gelato for guests to indulge in as they enjoyed the day’s festivities.

We were fortunate enough to have our launch day fall on World Bee Day. We know the vital role bees play in the preservation of Victoria’s delicate ecosystems. Our friends from Holly’s Backyard Bee’s provided a fully supervised Bee Hotel Making Class, to educate and entertain little ones, so parents could have the opportunity to explore the site at their leisure.
